Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Please check out the relevant documents on the left side menu and print the forms that you need to plan the musical part of your wedding. Please email me and l will contact you to arrange a time for you to pick up the planning CD's.
The liturgy is an act of public worship where everyone makes an expression of faith. The music is meant to support this expression of faith. Everyone in the church for your wedding is encouraged to participate in a common action, as fully as they are able, rather than simply watching what goes on “up front.” One major way for everybody to participate is by singing the hymns/songs and responses that are part of the celebration. The music you choose fosters a spirit of prayer and celebration, and strengthens their expression of faith.
For all of theses reasons, it is the hope of the church that those who gather for your wedding will be able to praise God and pray together for you. Singing is one of the best ways to do this. This is why using only instrumental music or a soloist is discouraged and why the role of a trained cantor to lead your guests in their expressions of faith, through song is recommended.
I invite you to consider these explanations as you make your preparations.
