Youth Ministry

The youth ministry program at St Raphael Parish exists in order to invite teens into an intimate relationship with Christ through the richness of the Catholic Church. We seek to accomplish this goal through our three main pillars, which lay the foundation for all of our youth ministry events: the Liturgy, positive relationships, and catechetical formation. Besides all of these things, this mission includes looking out for the healthy development of our youth, walking with them during their struggles, giving them a place to form strong friendships with peers who share their beliefs, and challenging them to integrate faith and life. We are blessed to have two vibrant youth groups at St Raphael Parish. Ignite is our high school youth program. The Edge is our junior high youth program.

Edge Ignite

The Edge is our youth ministry program for 7th and 8th graders. The Edge has both a faith formation and relational component. Because many of those who participate in the Edge are still receiving religious education, we are always sure to make our catechetical events include fun and exciting activities to make a point. This way, students can learn truths of the faith while having a fun time. Creating friendships with peers is very important in junior high ministry. We recognize how crucial this is in the lives of 7th and 8th grade students and we always strive to cultivate strong and uplifting faith based friendships. The Edge is a safe place for young people to come and feel comfortable and accepted being themselves.

If you have any questions about our junior high program, please contact our Edge coordinator, Mary Ellen Wolfinger at mewolfinger@msn.com or the Director of Youth Ministry, Megan Stout, at 240.864.2519 or mstout@straphaels.org.

Ignite is our high school youth group. In order to invite high school students into an intimate relationship with Christ, we do everything from jello fights and karaoke to Adoration and weekend retreats. The heart of this youth ministry program is the Youth Mass, every Sunday at 6pm. Here, the teens hear music that help guide them into worship and homilies that touch their hearts. They experience a community that is welcoming to them, and of course, our Eucharistic Lord, who comes to dwell within us. We also have a weekly youth group meeting where we play games, talk about an element of the faith and build community. Throughout the year we host numerous different social activities to give the teens an opportunity to create friendships and have fun! We also have 3 retreats a year, which oftentimes are the highlight of a teen’s youth ministry experience. A weekend away packed with games, talks, prayer, free time and the Sacraments, retreats really do have it all!

These are just a few of the many things Ignite has to offer. If you would like more information about our high school program, please contact the Director of Youth ministry, Megan Stout, at 240.864.2519 or mstout@straphaels.org.
