PARISH COUNCIL (adult)
Duties: Ten to twelve members of the parish are elected by the parish community to adhere to the Parish Pastoral Council Bylaws while representing the best interest of the parish community.
Time: The Parish Council meets with the Pastor nine times each year to discuss various agenda items concerning the parish community.
Special Skills: A willingness to represent the parish community in an advisory role that involves identifying needs and making recommendations on various topics that arise throughout any given year.

NEW PARISHIONER WELCOME (adult)
Duties: Parishioners join together to implement programs which acquaint and better integrate our new parishioners into life here at St. Raphael. This includes hosting New Parishioner Welcome Nights to introduce the parish staff and the ministries at St. Raphael. The group continues to look for other ideas to welcome our new parishioners, and improve their St. Raphael experience. Volunteers welcome.

THE MESSAGE OF DIVINE MERCY (adult)
Duties: The message of Divine Mercy is that God is merciful. He is love itself poured out for us, and He wants no one to escape that merciful love. This group supports and promotes the message of Divine Mercy and devotion to The Divine Mercy through The Divine Mercy Chaplet and the celebration of the Feast of The Divine Mercy. Volunteers welcome.
Time: Daily and weekly participation with additional time needed to prepare for and assist in the Feast of Divine Mercy celebrated the Sunday following Easter.

WELCOME HOME (adult)
Duties: Focus on reaching out in a prayerful, compassionate and welcoming manner to help those who are away to return to the church. Activities include listening, mentoring, prayer, encouragement and providing any assistance needed to direct them to appropriate parish contacts and resources to guide them back to the church and sacraments. Volunteers welcome.
Time: Dependent on assignment. Several hours per week and monthly meetings.

Duties: Attend, participate in, and possibly facilitate small faith community gatherings. Support and provide resources to Small Christian Communities within the parish.
Facilitator duties will often rotate but requires leading, inviting prayer and sharing in a small group setting. Volunteers welcome.

Duties: Prepare for Mass by setting out vessels, bread and wine, lighting altar candles, etc. Take home dirty vestments, altar cloths, purificators and towels, and wash/clean and press them.

Special Skills: A caring eye for detail; a desire to help "behind the scenes".

WEDDING SACRISTANS/COORDINATORS (adult or couples)
Duties: Learn duties of the Sacristans in order to provide assistance to Priests and Deacons presiding at weddings. Periodically attend wedding rehearsals and weddings and act as liaison to engaged couples in placing flowers and other set up activities for the wedding ceremony.
Time: Initial training; then as assigned at various weddings.
Special Skills: A caring attitude and willingness to support the Sacrament of Marriage.

SANCTUARY SOCIETY (adult)
Duties: Washing and refilling holy water dishes, clearing off counters in the vestibule and sacristy, straightening books in the pews, picking up trash, dusting and sweeping around the altar, cleaning the glass doors between vestibule and church, periodically polishing the brass. Volunteers welcome.
Time: Approximately 1-2 hours with a partner once a month on Saturday or Monday mornings after 9:00 AM Mass.
Special Skills: None-Just a desire to help "lighten the load."

RESPECT FOR LIFE COMMITTEE (Adults and Teens)
Duties: The Respect Life Committee of St. Raphael affirms that human life is a precious gift from God to be protected from conception to natural death. The objective of the committee is to promote in compassion and love the sacredness of all human life through prayer, education, and witness. This is done through planning and implementing programs that promote a culture of life; educating and informing the parish about issues regarding life issues; participating in special Masses and rosaries; lobbying for life through correspondence with political leaders and others; support of pro-life organizations through volunteering and parish activities; participating in the annual March for Life and hosting pilgrims from other states; praying at abortion facilities. Volunteers welcome.

PRISON MINISTRY (adult)
Duties: Ministry serves the Montgomery County Correctional Facility located in Clarksburg, MD (exit 18 off 270). Ministry consists of being present for Masses or communion services on Sundays and for catechism classes and scripture sharing on Wednesday evenings. Ministry serves English and Spanish speaking inmates. There are also opportunities for after care to serve as a mentor to inmates when they leave the facility. Volunteers welcome.
Time: Flexible for drop-ins and after care.

Duties: Provide support to parish members at times of crisis, particularly after loss by death, serious illness, divorce, or separation. Duties: Prepare or deliver meals for individuals living at a shelter (Dorothy Day Place, Chase Shelter, Sophia House in Rockville). Volunteers welcome.
Time: Meal preparation (11/2 hour); or meal delivery (1 hour) (occasional, every month, bimonthly, once or twice a year).
Special Skills: Anyone willing to prepare or deliver a meal.

CARDINAL'S APPEAL COMMITTEE
Duties: Plan and organize the annual Cardinal's Appeal at St. Raphael's; encourage full participation through planning, publicity, tracking and reporting
Time: Seasonal (November through May); 1 to 2 meetings per month; training for committee chair and for speakers (January and February) provided by Archdiocese.
Special Skills: A heart for the poor of the Archdiocese and an interest in promoting the Appeal; skills in writing, graphic arts, creative thinking and speaking.
